Can we use blue ink in filling up and signing our forms? Or do we have to use black ink?

All the forms available on USCIS.gov, both on the instruction PDF file and the form itself has it clearly stated: “Type or print in black ink.” or “Type or print legibly in black ink.”

It is a simple instruction and may be trivial for some, but not abiding by this simple instruction may get you a Request for Evidence (RFE) with USCIS or a 221G Request for Additional Documents at the K1 Visa Interview Stage.

So, No. You cannot use blue ink. Use only black.

I have a question. I am petitioning to bring my husband to the US from Costa Rica. I went to Costa Rica a week ago and my husband filled out the I-485. I brought back with me, had an attorney look it over and I’m about to send it out. I noticed my husband filled out the application in blue ink. It states at the top to use black. What will happen if I turn it in? Will it get denied? Will I lose my very large application fee? I do not have the time for him to send me another copy. International mail will take way too long. What to do? ?

More often than not, USCIS will probably send you an RFE or, maybe even send back your entire package including the payment. Until then, you just have to wait for USCIS Correspondence and follow directions strictly.
